Regular price $1,600.00 Sale

"Snow Monkey", 2013. Mixed media on paper. 29 x 23.5 in. framed

A lovely piece of early work by Nathan Eugene Carson from the first solo show we had here at VERSO Gallery/Inabstracto in 2013.

Nathan Eugene Carson is a Canadian contemporary artist, mainly working in painting and collage. Known for figurative explorations of hybrid creatures, animals, and human figures—both fictional and historical—Carson’s subjects emerge from richly pigmented surfaces, and shed light on narratives that weave together themes of Black identity and history, personal memories, and charged symbolism.

Nathan lives and works in Hamilton, Ontario.  His drawings and paintings have been shown internationally at Gallery One, Toronto; Gallery Hugues Charbonneau, Montreal; The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, Toronto; New Art Projects, London, UK; Patel Brown, Toronto; The Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Lethbridge; and Norberg Hall, Calgary.  Carson was the recipient of the RBC Artist-in-Residence at the Art Gallery of Hamilton where he had a yearlong exhibition titled Black Carnival (2023). His most notable solo exhibition, Cut from the same cloth, 2020—ongoing, originated at The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, Toronto, and has been touring since, comprises paintings of brightly rendered whimsical portraits and characters emerging from obscure matte grounds.
