517A Crawford Street Toronto
Inabstracto is one of Toronto’s top mid-century modern art and design destinations. Opened in 2001 by collector Kate Eisen, and joined in 2010 by artist and designer Julie Jenkinson. Inabstracto was a Queen Street West landmark.
In 2024 the building was sold and they moved their business to their Coach House in Little Italy. In the spring of 2025 they are opening a second location with a more "country vibe" in Northumberland County.
Kate and Julie showcase a dynamic collection of art and design. While mid century modern is their focus, vintage and antique furniture, ceramics, textiles, lighting and contemporary and bespoke artworks are intertwined.
Each gallery offers a unique space to discover and be inspired within the context of their personal collections.
Toronto | Coach House 517
Their Toronto gallery/showroom is a characterful turn-of-the-century Edwardian Coach House with a rich history. Situated on a laneway in Little Italy, since the early 1900s the building has been the home and studio to a succession of artists. Kate and Julie acquired the building eleven years ago from the renowned Canadian artist Barbara Klunder.
Baltimore Ontario | Byrd House Gallery
Inabstracto 's new country location "Byrd House Gallery" sits on 80 rolling acres in The Northumberland Hills. An early 1800s timber frame building owned by The Byrd family in Colborne was lovingly deconstructed and constructed by restorationists Sven Kraumanis and Christine Jenkinson of Legacy Vintage on their family property.
Adjacent to Byrd House is Jenkinson's Art & Design Studio. The building is constructed from salvaged 12’ timbers from the decommissioned Roseneath Jail. A commanding 20' spiral staircase salvaged from the Millbrook Correctional Facility pirouettes in the centre of the space.
Here, by appointment you can see Jenkinson’s multi-disciplinary body of work including drawings, sculptural jewelry, large and small scale installations and assemblage work made from hundreds of neatly and obsessively categorized post-industrial materials and objects she has collected for over 25 years.
