Jude Clark art deco style wedge pendant. Textured sterling silver and 18K gold locket with inset graduating amethyst stone (purple graduating to a citrine yellow). Round snake chain. Signed, dated, 1998.
Jude’s work is made from precious metals, primarily sterling silver, and gemstones. Her metalwork comes from a background in sculpture, painting and printmaking, and her fascination with tiny mechanical parts.
“The mechanics of metalwork are a joy to me, from the sequential nature of building to my more precise hopes of making something work on a variety of levels.”
Jude was raised in upstate New York. Her father constructed scale model exhibits for New York State Museum and, as a hobby, built musical instruments. In these early years, Jude became fascinated with hand-tools, mechanical parts, and miniatures. In 1982 she moved to Tucson where she studied applied arts.
She was an artist in residence in Montreux, Switzerland and studied traditional metalworking in Michoacán, Mexico. Since 1992, she has concentrated exclusively on her own metalwork and jewelry. Jude is the recipient of a Niche Award in 2004. Her work has appeared in many publications including 1000 Rings by Lark Books. She also appeared on the cover of Facere’s Signs of Life 2006.
