Vintage Bertoia Chairs
Vintage Bertoia Chairs
4 Early Harry Bertoia Dining Chairs by Knoll in Black.
Designed in 1952 the chair is considered a mid century modern icon. Made primarily from welded steel rods, these chairs are from the late 1960’s early 1970’s and purchased in NYC.
The chairs belong to Susan Ford who together with Barbara Ballentine were the co-owners of the renowned independent architectural bookstore Ballenford Books on Markham Street in Toronto. Founded in 1979 the two women combined their surnames to name the business. The Bookstore was known not just as a Bookstore but also functioned as a Gallery and Exhibition Space for Toronto focused architectural and photographic shows. The space was described in an article by the Toronto Star as an important and vital “urban centre” for public conversation on the city development.
The Chairs are in good vintage condition and have 4 original seat pads but they are in pretty rough shape but will be included with the purchase of the chairs.
