We're very excited to include Betty's work in our gallery.

Betty Wood (she/her) is a folk fibre artist working at the intersection of craft and fine art.

Her large-scale wall hangings and rugs are made slowly with hand tools, playing with expectations of scale and materiality. Betty’s art delves into themes of sexuality, gender, mythology, history and natural forms, with pieces often centring on the domestic sphere, capturing transient or lost spaces in comforting textiles.

Her works are held privately across Europe, North America and Australia.

Coffee at 180. Acrylic yarn, hand-dyed natural wools, recycled fabrics, and recycled cotton threads on monks’ cloth. 48” x 48”.

"This piece was created in 2022 using a series photographs I took, and is part of a wider rumination on memory and “lost” interior spaces I produced during the pandemic. It’s entirely hand hooked and punched, with around 82-85,000 individual loops and took 3 months to make.

I’ve made 4 pieces at this scale, but this was the first really delving into shadow and light in any meaningful way."
