Frank Gehry’s Hat Trick Chairs in scarce purple heart for Knoll. Gehry was a passionate hockey player and fan growing up in Toronto. These chairs were purchased in Toronto in 1992 by an Architect. At the time most people preferred natural wood. The Purple Heart, or Aubergine, production window was incredibly brief following the collection’s 1992 debut for Knoll, leaving only a small handful of these sculptural pieces in circulation today. For our great neighbors in Quebec, he also loved the Montreal Canadiens!!
Kate had the pleasure of hearing his lecture at Harvard’s GSD part of the Walter Gropius Lecture Series in 1990.
