Ralph Fasanella (1914–1997) was a working-class New Yorker and renowned painter of “social reality.” Through his colourful and dense compositions, he depicted complex themes of social and political unrest, historic events, the importance of leisure, and the unique energy of New York City and its citizens.

The largest collection of Ralph Fasanella paintings can be found at ACA Galleries, the American Folk Art Museum and the Fenimore Art Museum. His work is also on permanent display in many public buildings including the Ellis Island Museum and the New York City Subway system. He is represented in numerous important private and public collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian.
